2022 Remembrance Day Challenge Kit at Market Lane Junior and Senior Public School

In 2022, Market Lane Jr. Sr. School in the Toronto DSB took part in our Remembrance Day pilot.

Jamea Zuberi, Vice-Principal at Market Lane Jr. Sr. School in the Toronto DSB, says she got “everything” out of her experience engaging the school in a whole-school challenge using I-Think’s Remembrance Day Challenge Kit.

“(Students) made a pledge that’s not only around Remembrance Day, on 11.1.11, but a full year pledge, we’re going to do as a school community all year round…You know, if I may say, and you’ll hear it from the student voices too, it’s a yes and model. Yes, we practice and we have observed Remembrance Day in the past with these pillars. We’re not going to change the pillars. We’re not going to erase the pillars. We’re going to add some relevant current pieces that most reflect our school community. The most valuable lesson I think our students learned was that this is the beginning of a conversation. Though it was really fulfilling, it’s only the beginning because when we think, thought is developed over time with more information and intentionality. So if you’re being critical, then it doesn’t stop. It’s like a domino effect and they got that. So that was definitely one piece that we’d like to hold on to.”
